Segundo Wines
Inwood's Second Label
Our "Segundo" line of wines is Inwood Estates'
Second Label.

As the name implies, "Segundo" means "second"
in Spanish, these wines originate from barrels or
lots of our Estate-Level wines which we believe are
not of the quality that we demand for our Inwood
wines.

Every so often, we assess what wine we have
accumulated from our regular cellaring and look for
wine on the open market which blends well with
what we have. The result is an exceptional value
wine which has many of the characteristics of
more expensive, hand-made offerings.

Why is this? And what is factory wine? Usually,
the Inwood portion of Segundo has been treated
and cellared just like our fine wines, meaning that
they have been aged in French Oak for a
significant length of time and at an accompanying
expense to our winery.

Today, most value priced wine is what we in the
industry call factory wine. Made in very large
quantities and manipulated to save costs, most
factory wine notoriously tastes like every other
factory wine. These wines are so much a product
of focus groups and bulk production techniques
that there can be very little distinction between
them other than their elaborate labels and artwork.

With our Segundo series, the consumer gets a
portion of the wine that has been hand-made. This
gives the wine a character that is distinct from
other similarly priced wines and stands out among
the ocean of factory wine in the supermarkets and
big beverage stores.

Segundo wines come only in red and white and a
port-style dessert wine called 'Rubyna', but can
vary in other ways. Most are non-vintage, so they
bear a Lot Number to help consumers identify one
from another. Also, most are blends, since they
originate from our Estate wines. However, in the
future, it is likely that some Lots will bear a vintage
as well as a varietal name. Each of these
decisions about future releases will be made as
the wines express themselves in the best way.
